## Question

Why do quotes from different developers vary so much?

## Answer

Because there is no formula and no standard.

Skill levels vary, experience varies, and everyone prices differently. Some people underestimate the work, some price for speed, and some price for safety.

## It's About Expectations

A lot of this comes down to expectations. A low quote might mean the person is inexperienced, moving too fast, or just taking a swing. A high quote might mean more planning, more communication, more padding for unknowns, or simply more overhead.

That doesn't mean the expensive quote is automatically better. It means you should understand what is actually being priced.

If you're hiring someone for five dollars an hour, you shouldn't expect miracles. At the same time, good developers usually won't take on projects with unrealistic timelines or budgets, because they know how those stories end.

The way I look at it is simple: figure out what you want to build, figure out what resources you truly have, and shape the idea around those constraints. If you have limited time and money, you need a version of the idea that respects that.

The best quote is not the cheapest one. It's the one that makes the tradeoffs clear.
